Sabine Klotz, chairwoman and founder of Chay-Ya, resides between Vorarlberg and Vienna in Austria, since 2007 studies International Development and South Asian Studies and speaks Hindi (due to her visits to Nepal and India), which is important for organizing the projects. Sabine is responsible for planning, organizing, accomplishing and fund-raising.
CHAY – YA Austria (Association for the global fight against poverty and for promoting social and educational development) is an organization that operates primarily in the Nepalese Himalayas in sustainable poverty alleviation.
The projects range from emergency humanitarian development aid (building up hygiene and medical care camps, toilets, water filters, etc.) to sponsoring the education of children, medical education of adults, and the construction of sustainable ecotourism lodges.
Currently we focus on the construction of a primary health care system including a small health post in the village of Nile at 3250 meters altitude in the remote Tsum Valley (a 6-day march). Once a year we will organize mobile health camps until the project is completed – see PROJECTS, “Future Plans”.
Chay-Ya´s big dream is to build a school including an orphanage for around 40 to 60 children. The negotiation for the land in Lumbini, on the border to India, will start in autumn. Our projects are based on the aim to offer people the chance to help themselves out of poverty.
